Our certified organic extra virgin olive oils are grown from a natural wildlife habitat. Certified by the California Organic Farmers (CCOF), we pride ourselves on using organic and regenerative farming practices.
But what are you actually buying? Even in California, organic food brands are not that common. It is estimated that only 9%* of California entire farming and ranching are organic. Of that number, the organic olive oil industry is just roughly 10 to 15%.** of that number.
At The Virgin Organic, we use zero pesticides, zero herbicides, zero insecticides. We also have regenerative farming practices. We are a rare breed amongst the masses.
Our olive oils are are monocultivar, meaning they are single varietal selection and are hand-harvested, ensuring exceptional flavors and aromas.
No Tilling
This practice is seldom done on the property. Most would assume that tilling the soil is beneficial. However, by avoiding tilling, soil structure is enhanced, and the ecosystem below remains undisturbed.
California Water Conservation
How water is managed on the property is critical. We use a carefully designed drip system to conserve our planet’s most precious resource. Additionally, the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) monitors farming practices to ensure food safety on the property.
Hand Harvesting
This is a labor-intensive and costly job. Just like in the wine industry, mechanical harvesting is common in the olive oil industry. However, hand-picking minimizes damage to the olives, preventing bruising or crushing, which can lead to the release of enzymes such as polyphenol oxidase.
